How a Naturopath approaches your gut health
When you see a GP about digestive symptoms, the focus is typically on ruling out serious disease and if nothing serious is found, you're often left with a diagnosis of ‘its normal’. Naturopathy starts from a different place we want to know the why and what - so 'why is your gut not functioning well, and what can we do about it?'.
A naturopath specialising in gut health takes a detailed case history that covers your full health picture. Your symptoms, your diet, your stress levels, your sleep, your bowel habits, your history of medication use (particularly antibiotics), and any other health conditions that may be contributing.
Where appropriate, we use functional testing to get an accurate picture of what's actually happening in your digestive system, including your gut microbiome, markers of gut permeability, inflammation, and digestive function. This takes the guesswork out of treatment and means we're targeting what's actually driving your symptoms.
Why Naturopathy for gut health?
Root cause investigation
Rather than managing symptoms long-term, naturopathy focuses on understanding and addressing the underlying drivers. Bloating, constipation, and reflux all have specific, identifiable causes that can be managed.
Personalised treatment
No two guts are the same. Your treatment plan is built around your specific drivers, your health history, and your lifestyle- we don’t use protocols that are not right for you.
Functional testing
We use functional testing testing when needed, including comprehensive microbiome analysis and specific blood tests related to your case (not just generic blood tests). These give us a much clearer picture of what's actually happening and what needs to be addressed.
Dietary and nutritional support
Food first is our approach. If we can make changes with diet first we will. As they say food is medicine so its important this part is really solid before we move onto anything else.We provide dietary and nutrition advice inside your treatment plan.
The whole picture
A naturopath looks at the connections between your gut and your hormones, your nervous system, your immune function, and your mental health, because everything is related. We help put the pieces of your health puzzle together to help understand whats going on.
